News in brief: Liam Gallagher, U2, LCD Soundsystem, Alt-J

Liam Gallagher played his first solo billed gig at the Ritz in Manchester tonight (Tuesday 30th May) – which went down pretty well.

Gallagher played both new and established tracks, teaming up with Oasis former guitarist Bonehead.

Ahead of the gig, Liam had promised “some serious RnR (rock n roll)”, while a source close to Gallagher said it would be “incredible, emotional gig” with “a few surprises too”.

Proceeds from the show went to the victims and families of those affected by last week’s Manchester Arena attack.

U2 have issued an update on the progress of their next album, ‘Songs Of Experience’.

Speaking to Rolling Stone recently, frontman Bono was asked about the status of ‘Songs Of Experience’. He replied: “The band will tell you not to listen to me on those kind of matters since I thought it was done last year. But I think the pause has made it better. The actual tracklisting is not set yet, but we have some proper, proper fuck-off songs.

Bono added that he’d “like” to release the record before 2018, but added: “Don’t listen to me.”

LCD Soundsystem are “totally done with the music and mixing” of their new album, James Murphy has confirmed.

The news follows the band announcing the completion of their new record on-stage at Sasquatch! Festival this weekend. In a Facebook post, Murphy said:  “Hello humans. This is just a note to say that we’re done with the record. Like, totally done with the music and mixing. Just some art stuff to finish, but it’s been mastered already and the lacquers are winging their way to the pressing plant”.
